I’m doing some planned traveling in my truck and camper. Things have been interesting. They try and claim the economy is horrible but there’s not a place that’s not crowded, you didn’t have to reserve months in advance and things folks won’t pay extra for.
Camping is off the chain busy. Lakes and boats are off the chain busy. So for a bad economy there’s a lot of playing.
Every single place we’ve stopped for fuel it’s a line. The stores are stripped of goods. You do not wait till fuel is a “need” I only made that mistake once and had less than a gallon left by the time we got to the pump. First time I’ve seen or heard a low fuel light in my life.
Things like the steakhouse being out of steak. You need a roll of black and red wire for a project “well we have black and green”. “Ok give me what ya got” seems to be something I say a lot.
The traffic is heavy especially big rigs because goods are on the move.
I’ll tell ya we are doing a whole lot better in Oklahoma than many of these other places are doing. That lockdown almost destroyed some places completely.

With the exception of the early stages of the lockdowns, for the most part, it has not been all that bad around here.
Except having to wear masks.
Yeah, there is a labor shortage, as many are going to ride the “stimulus” out till Sept. Now hiring signs everywhere, fast food chains offering $15-17/hr pay.
Home improvement is a big deal here.
JP Morgan had a report a few weeks ago, showing the states that have fully re-opened are leading the so-called Biden economic recovery, while Blue states are lagging, with NY in dead last. Much of that is attributed to the mass exodus from NYC due to the work from home, and crime there.

I’m pretty sure I can get a job in almost any place I walk into. Restaurants/fast food are hurting the most.
Old guys like me start as managers or team leaders because they need direction and responsibility. My city boy buddy that knows nothing agribusiness who retired before I did started as team leader at tractor supply because of this.
You can’t rent a car anywhere. Folks are renting uhauls just to have stuff to drive.
I’m still hopeful for this country though. I’m just a casual observer that’s going to share some stuff.

So wife’s chair in the camper broke. Ok well I look it up and hey there’s a lazy boy store we are driving by in a few hours and we can trade it out once we are home. I got some money saved so that’s what we will do. We stop and yup they got a floor full. Cool
We’d like this one. “Yes we can have that one by tomorrow”. Uh nope I need it right now so whatya got in stock here. “Uh we don’t have stock here it’s actually all in another state and it’s shipped because covid”
I see the wife losing her mind in 3,2,1 yup I’m pushing her out the door 😂
Well that kinda answered the question I had as to why no one was there cause the one over in OKC we gotta drive into is crowded all the time with lookie loos. Kinda hard to sell anything and stay in business if ya ain’t got nothing

That is interesting.

I’m seeing a little shortage in hardware. A lot of empty slots on bolts, nuts, eye bolts and such in a few states
Been working on a few projects as we’ve been going and stayed with some friends and worked on a few things. I had even seen this back home.
It’s not real bad but seems like things aren’t being replaced. Some say they can’t get stuff and others say they don’t have enough people to properly order stuff and keep up.

We are having part shortage for electronic farm equipment…. illegal to hack your own equipment so you can get parts so it works without factory technicians.
We have also had tire shortages ( loader and heavy equipment)
Other things are just getting stupid expensive like feed,80% fuel 100% and building supplies80 to 400 %…
Fence post was 3.50 now 10. We started using our mill and wood post and rail splitter as it was way cheaper.
Our pork pricing is going up 50% this month

Nice to hear about how other states are doing. We are so far doing ok here. Stores are now well stocked, but prices are rising. Signs everywhere in stores and fast food as well as other places trying to get help. Signs in many places asking for people to please be patient as they are very short handed and doing the best they can. The market where my DH used to cook collards is very short handed. Hired one guy and he worked 2 weeks and then never showed up after that. The manager looks really bad. They are working him to death. No days off either. He can’t keep that pace up. I am thinking about going in to help them out. I’m sure I can do something. I did help cook the collards and can do much more. But at my age I am not sure I could keep that pace up.

Littlesister I saw a lot of the worn out in eyes over the week.
Many places are on shortened hours as they simply can’t staff all shifts.

We’ve given up on eating out while traveling . When you go they are either unable to serve and process or unable to fill the previously limited menus. I just wanted to enjoy local cuisine as we went. Our fridge and pantry stayed stocked.
Fuel well get ready to wait in line. Most aren’t bad but it’s just the fact that no matter what station or where it is if it’s off a highway there’s a line. I know your like so what? Thing is if it’s this overwhelmed now I’m imagine what it’s going to be like in a real emergency and it runs out. “you will only have what you have when IT happens “
Shopping as a consumer right now you meet some really rude folks who hate their jobs or are too tired and are on edge. I don’t say much but just smile and go on cause it’s just the way it is right now. I’ve only checked one and of course the ole “your racist” standby was thrown out. “Sure kid sure”.
8 more hours and I’ll be done and have that outta my system. I met and stayed with some awesome folks I’ll post more on later. This group reinstilled a belief in me that a lot of folks love this country.
