By “guilty pleasure,” I mean movies that were savaged or dismissed by the critics even if fairly popular among the viewing public.

    Here’s a few of mine:

“Overboard” with Goldie Hawn and Curt Russell. Sort of a “taming of the shrew” but many good one-liners.

“The Parent Trap” (remake) with Lindsey Lohan. Although the original was great, and Ms. Lohan’s personal life has been a train wreck since becoming an adult, this remake really shines because of her performance as a child.

Oldie But Goodie: “King Solomon’s Mines, 1950 version with Stewart Granger and Deborah Kerr. Politically non-correct in today’s world but still a grand adventure that was filmed in Africa.

More Oldies: “Pillow Talk” and “Lover Come Back” with Doris Day and Rock Hudson. Again, outdated but still funny comedies.

I find that when I get frazzled and overwhelmed with all the things I think I should be accomplishing, sitting down to watch one of these favorites restores my equilibrium.

Don’t know if I’d call them guilty pleasures but there are a number of movies that I will throw in to decompress.

    Casablanca
    To Have and Have Not
    Key Largo
    Maltese Falcon

Nothing complex, clearly defined bad guys, it just works.

Too much post-apocalyptic stuff growing up, don’t get into it anymore.

    Where to start!

The Scarlet Pimpernel ( 1934 version starring Leslie Howard),
    Sweet Home Alabama,
    1st Wives Club,
    Baby Boom,
    Legally Blonde,
    The Wedding Planner
    Maid in Mahattan.
Oh and my favourite Doris Day movies are the Glass Bottomed Boat and With Six You Get Eggroll.
