That’s probably prudent as Russia doesn’t want that land like they do Ukraine. I’m still hopeful that it doesn’t go to nukes but everything is so unstable worldwide it’s hard to say what will happen.
Even in conventional warfare it’d be good to have them open for people and medical.
Poland should look at doing the same as should we. -

ParticipantNuclear war with Russia , China , or the US ?
Question : Whats going to be left to come out of a bunker for ? Everything will be contaminated…………..EVERYTHING . Not for a short time either . I think I’ll watch the fireworks , and get it over fast . If it did help to go to shelters , we are screwed in this country . We USED to have a very good civil defense plan . Almost in every town of any size ……………………we let that go to crap , now we have very little .

ParticipantThere is a closed, abandoned bank in town with an old civil defense shelter sign over the door. I wonder if there’s anyone around to unlock that door when push comes to shove?

None of them have been resupplied since the 70s at best. We raided the abandoned one in 86 and opened and attempted to consume the large can of “crackers” and it was terrible 😂 the weren’t bad but like a hardtack. Not “crackers” as we knew them to be. The container might have fell in the river right next to my trot line.
Structurally I wouldn’t trust them to hold after this many decades of being ignored except possibly this bank vault and hardened areas. Might be worth an inquiry as to who owns it and possibly rent etc. so as to get a good look anyway

ParticipantLet’s be honest, “shelters” are to help you through the first 48-72 hours, not spend the next 30 years in, unless you have the financial situation to pull off a “Blast From the Past” or “A Boy and His Dog” level of shelter.
The majority are probably still just as good as they were in 1965, if the door isn’t rusted shut.
My parents were looking at a house a dozen or so years back, it had a shelter in the basement that dated back to the Cuban Missile Crisis. And with a few updates, would have been just as good today as then.
Up close, you are still screwed.
Any real distance, I think I still have a leather jacket and some chaps around here somewhere. -
