Self defense firearms are serious business. I’ve tried many things that have worked. However I also have tried may things that have failed. I thought it would be beneficial to share some of my fails.
    1. I had a EO tech optic that failed.
    2. I’ve had a couple different Bushnell optics that failed.
    3. I’ve will never use a single point sling on a AR. I had one that blocked the charging handle.
    4. Remington 870 magazine follower should be replaced with a steel one.
    5. I had a Magpul AK stock break at the attachment point.
    6. I’ve had many different scope mounts fail. So I try to get the best ones possible
Anyone else have anything fail they would like to share?

We had an old (WW1-era) Remington 30-06. My ex went to put the safety on with it loaded, and putting the safety on fired the weapon! He had it pointed in a safe direction, of course, so nothing was harmed. Still – eek!

Crow bar what was the manner of malfunctions? Jamming? Parts breaking? I’m curious thank you.

    Failure to feed mostly.
    Failure to extract was secondary.

Shockingly the armory did not want me to clean it, a 2.5hours process, to trouble shoot it. No pun intended.

Was not just me either. I know about half a dozen other Marines who experienced similar problems.

The upside, just turn it into the armory and they issue you another.

I’ve had several cheapo scopes and red dots that I was not able to fine tune and adjust to the POI.  With optics, like so many other things, you get what you pay for.

    @James Mitchner,

    Yep!

The upside is the price for good quality glass has come down.  May not be a S&B, but some of the Vortex, Burris, and others make a good scope without busting the bank.

I have a SWFA 20×42 that I feel is just as good as my friends $1k Leupold.

Most of my glass has the golden ring around the objective end.  But I have a Leopold .22 scope on a Ruger 77/22 that looks and feels cheap.  So far it functions at intended.

I have a Burris Scout Scope on a Ruger ‘Gunsight Ranch’ scout rifle and a Vortex red dot on something else.  No complaints about either.

Many of the well-known companies now market an inexpensive “economy” class.  I avoid those as well as the Russian and Chinese glass.

How do you like that Ruger Gunsite?

My next purchase might be one of those with the Burris you mention.

Actually, could you post a review of both as others might find it interesting.
