Yup we Mylar a lot of stuff from freeze dried foods to spices and everything in between.
I don’t reuse bags though. It’s rare to find ones that aren’t compromised with pinholes after use.Her suggestion of using .5 and higher thickness is a good one. With shortages right now one might only be able to find .3s. My suggestion is to double up. I’ve done it before with good results. Seal it in one then seal another around it. Label both though.
No shortcuts like using hand warmers as O2 absorbers because this is your food for your loved ones.

Participant<span data-sheets-value=”{“1″:2,”2”:”Normally when you want to keep your food safe from bacteria growth and also from getting spoiled it is best to keep them in the refrigerator/freezer. Refrigerating food is the best way to stop it from growing bacteria. Unfortunately not all food can remain in the freezer for a sufficient period of time to be sold for a long time, like the food that you eat everyday. That is the reason why it is best to store food in a commercial cooler. Prolonged time in the cooler can greatly increase lifespan of a food item. ParticipantI’ve taken to putting bulk food sacks in their original packaging into steel garbage cans, fill the cans up to the brim and sock the cans away in my garage. It’s a deep freeze come winter. no bugs gonna make it thru -20f January cold. Of course the Mylar bag solution is better – individual servings, better air seal, etc. But from what I’ve seen, store packaging is sufficient for a few years at least. I cooked up some 4 year old rice from the back of my pantry, it was just fine. But I date the items so I can tell their vintage.
