I’m a single mom and a mini prepper. I’m here to learn as much as I can so I can be as ready as possible. I’m finishing my prep to bug in for Dorian and hoping he stays out to sea .
Wishing all those in the path of Dorian Blessings and good will!

Hello and welcome Brighteyes. We are also in the path of Dorian But it will be a cat. 1 for us as we are in East coast of VA. Where are you where the storm is concerned? I hope not in Florida as they are going to get it rather bad but not like it was going to be. They will have a great deal of flooding and are feeling the effects now. We are already prepared here as where we are for a cat 1 it won’t be so bad. for us but on the VA Beach coast line it will get worse with flooding.
Take care and stay safe from this storm.

Hi Littlesister! I’m in Eastern North Carolina and about 95 miles northeast of where they are saying Dorian may make landfall. I was affected by Michael and Florence and faired pretty well minimal damage but went without power for a week.
Thankfully I have a propane stove so cooking and washing won’t be a problem. My only concern is that I’m on city water this go round so I’m not sure if I’ll have available water. All the containers are filled with water and I’ve frozen 45 sandwich bags with water also, so I’m hoping for the best.
I hope you aren’t affected by this!

Howdy Brighteyes!
Welcome!
What are you doing to prep to Bug-In?-

Hi Crow Bar! I’m stocked up on food, propane for the camping stove, filling everything that has a lid with water and filling Ziploc bags with water, stocked meds and first aid things, tied down stuff in the yard, filled the gas tank, got smokes and adult beverages.
Anything else you can think of that I missed?

Brighteyes. City water is not immune to being lost. My daughter lost both electric and city water for 2 weeks. Hoping you will be ok. But please be as prepared as you can. If you have large pans that you use for water bath canning, even your pressure cooker. You can fill those and any other large pans you have as well as anything else you have that will hold water. Filling up bags and freezing them is a great idea as it will help keep your food frozen a bit longer. Just don’t open freezer or fridge doors anymore than you have to. We are about 35 miles inland from VA Beach. We have made out rather fair in past hurricanes. We have gone as long as 2 weeks without electric, but did fine. Will be praying that you and everyone else in the path of this storm will come out of this in good condition and learn from it as well. There is a tropical storm now forming in the gulf. So we will be watching that one as Dorian passes by and is done with. If you have 2 liter drink bottles, you can wash them really good and then fill them as well with water. I save all of those just for that purpose also. But have not filled them yet. Stay safe.

Thanks for suggesting the pressure cooker I don’t have one but I’ve got a crock pot and I’ll use that too. I didn’t think to use my pots, I’ll do that too. There’s other stuff I can use but didn’t think of till your post so thanks for the help.
I saw about the depression in the gulf and there was another one off in the Atlantic hope neither turn into a storm.
