Almost all bad experiences when hiking can be traced to a trail of events. Usually it’s a chain that starts with no one knowing where the hikers going, when they are expected to return and not carrying supplies.

You’ve got a working phone with signal but are “lost”?

Yeah, if I get one phone call from a unknown number, I ignore it.
But get more than a few in a short time period, might want to take that call.

Also, I would of called the person/s whom I told I was going hiking that I would be delayed.
