A friend posed this question to me the other day. She is a caregiver for her disabled husband and they have limited income. One of his meds is very expensive. And she is wondering how she can stock up on it. I have started to try and refill my couple prescriptions early but that is difficult to do with some HMO. Any suggestions? Thank you!

We try and do the 90 day prescriptions. That way I’ve got the best chance of having as much as possible on hand if a sudden event happens.
We’ve had dosages increased in medication. Often times I’ll watch folks throw out the lower dosages rather than keep them. Same thing when they switch meds.
If you travel some doctors will give you advanced medications depending on what it is. They won’t do opiates etc for good reason though.
It really depends on what the medication is.
Has she tried talking to the doctor about it? Some can be understanding because they too are worried and/or are into preparedness. They might have samples they can give
