I am looking at it from more of a socio-economic view point.
Fewer people means not only population contraction, but economic contraction. Fewer homes to build, fewer big screen TVs to fill those homes, washers and dryers etc.
Then there is the SS problem. It takes 3 working people to support that one retiree. IIRC it was 2010 we fell below that number and continue to fall.
Read an article recently saying those prior to the baby boomer generation actually saw the greatest return on their SS contributions. The baby boomers are second. But due to their numbers, SS will be unfunded by 2034. Those who will be retiring by that time will likely see reduced in benefits (payout).
It is even worse for millennials.

I guess we will have to stop buying that 5 billion dollar bomber . Thats where I would start making cuts , as well as shutting down overseas bases . Also stop the econ drain on our ” forever wars ” . How much does it cost to keep one man in Iraq or Afghanistan per day , then multiply that for over 12 years , with no result .

Social Security wouldn’t have a problem if the gov. hadn’t been stealing from it. I say they need to pay it back. It was not theirs to take. My grandchildren, two whom are married all said they don’t want to have children because of the fact that this country is going to hell in a hand basket and they don’t want to bring a child into this world with everything going on.  These children would be our future presidents, senators, doctors and maybe even a cure for cancer and mental illness, etc. But then look at how many babies have been killed through abortion that could have been the ones to find the cure for many illnesses. There are many ways to look at things. Over population is not the problem.
