Hurricane Dorian is now a Category 5 hurricane, which as you probably know is the strongest category. It will make landfall on Monday or Tuesday but now it has shifted direction and people in Georgia, the Carolinas, and possibly Virginia have only a day to get prepped for it.

Here’s what you need to know: Hurricane Dorian Has Shifted and THESE States Have a DAY to Get Prepared

Thank you for the book!  I’m using it to help prepare for Dorian. I’m in ENC about 85 Mike’s inland but still expecting problems since we had loud of power and flooding during Matthew and Florence.

Daisy, we are on the east coast of VA and are ready. We are about 35 miles inland from VA Beach in N.Suffolk. So we are good to go.

Brighteyes, I posted on the welcome site. Now I see where you are. I know the area you are at. Stay safe as you could be having a cat 3 coming your way. Just make sure you have plenty of stored water as well as your other preps. You will need it for flushing toilets, washing dishes and all the other things water is needed for.  We have always filled our bath tubs up for use as well as all our large pots. We have bottled water for drinking as well. We now have about 8 5 gal. water containers that I have filled as well. Had to use those for my daughter a few years ago when a tornato took out the city water where she was. 3 children and one was a new born. They came to our house to take baths and took water home each time. 2 weeks with no running water. So we know the city water can be knocked out here. As for us at that time, we had the water but no electric for 2 weeks. We made out great.

So be careful and take care.  Daisy’s book is a great one to learn from. She has a lot of great info on her e-books.

My daughter is 50 miles from the beaches. Used to live right in Jacksonville Florida. They have recent moved to a town a bit more inland. Around 16 miles from Georgia. There have food and water for a couple of weeks. They are also on higher ground now. Still I pray for the safety of all in the storm path.

A good friend lives down n the cone of uncertainty. (Gulf side)

We have been going back and forth on the hurricanes and a host of other issues.

This year he’s staying put, last year he evacuated for one and stayed away for the second.

I send him pictures of the snow in the yard, he sends pictures of the pools he’s working on. We also trade weather reports. I generally win.

It’s funny, the people who have been through the hurricanes (and learned) are like those that have been through tornadoes, they are just kicking back and waiting for landfall.

You have your preps, get ready and sit back and wait. A certain fatalism is in both groups. There’s only so much you can do.

My daughter is interested in prepping but my son in law not so much. My daughter was talking about how I’d always been able to feed 30 with no notice and feed us all when storms closed the roads. It’s just a matter of having simple things on the shelves. A can of beans, a can of corn, a can or two of canned tomatoes or sauce, a lb of hamburger to brown-tvp to soak and cook or a bit of jerkey to soak and throw in. Even some cooked rice to stretch it more, a diced onion or two or dried diced onions… Chili seasonings. Cook till boiling good and quickly stir in a few tablespoons of Corn meal.

Mix Corn meal and boiling water with a pinch of salt in a bowl to make a soft dough and make it 1/4 inch or a bit more bottom and sides crust. Fill with the cooked seasoned mixture. Top with grated cheese – long horn or cheddar but even Jack or mozerella is good. Some canned seedless black olives are pretty slices or chunks scattered over the top. Bake at 350° till cheese is Browning and filling is setting up. Still almost runny is still ok but I like mine more like a thick stew. Serve with a simple salad or cooked wild greens. It can easily feed a crowd or a houseful of hungry teens. No exact measurements so it’s easily stretched with beans, cooked rice, more corn et. Just season it to taste good. A lack of meat won’t be noticed if part of the seasoning is beef or chicken bullion. I’ve baked this with rabbit drumsticks in it. Everyone cleaned their plate.

Spoke to my cousin in FL earlier tonight. My cousin(his little brother) is in the Bahamas. They are okay, house is flooded but they haven’t too much damage where they’re at but it’s really bad all over.  His MIL and aunt are on Abaco, please pray for them and everyone there. . They haven’t been able to contact her or find out anything as of yet. Cousin said the government is sending helicopters to search for survivors, not sure if it’s on the news yet. FL Cousin said he’ll keep me posted. HE and my uncle and other cousin have battened down the hatches, their sister and her Hubby have gone north and are hunkered down in a hotel right now.Talked to my sis in VA, they are as ready as they can be. They have a gas genny and lots of gas, food and water , Her daughter and family were heading there as well as our other sister and family. They will be hunkering down for awhile . I hope to hear from them soon.
