ParticipantMy daughter told me yesterday that inflation is at 8%. I laughed and replied it’s closer to 28%. She was aghast.

ParticipantYou can follow the inflation numbers using the 1990 and 1980 calculations at shadow stats. The numbers are quite high using those stats.
May 2022 year-to-year CPI-U inflation hit a 41-year high of 8.6% with the ShadowStats Alternate “Corrected” CPI at a new 75-year high of 16.8%.

ParticipantHow long did the economic crisis and inflationary issues of the late ’70’s last?
The numbers may scare you.

ParticipantThe Great Inflation lasting from 1965 to 1982 led economists to rethink the policies of the Fed and other central banks.
Between 1965 and 1981, annual inflation averaged more than 7 percent. In 1979 and 1980, average inflation peaked at almost 13 percent a year. The story of the Great Inflation begins with deficit spending.
But the Biden Administration is sure that they can spend their way out of the current situation! Do we ever learn? History repeats itself.

Right??
The initial The Inflation Reduction Act was $4t. Then reduced down to $2t.
Now as it stands it is only $369b, thanks to Manchin (d-WV). -

ParticipantPrice controls failed miserably in the 1970s. As a young child, I remember the long gas lines.
Rather than price controls, the other more directed option is tariffs.
Also, why are selling out Petro reserves to other countries?

ParticipantIf you don’t admit you have a problem (recession), then you don’t have to address it (recession).
Remember inflation is only transitory, then only temporary….
The next changed definition will be stagflation.
