ParticipantGreetings, Name here is Ron. Long time ham (General Lisc.) with much experience in disaster communications. I have been looking for a forum about communication preparedness that did not have the overburden of some particular doctrine (religion, political, racial etc.). Hopefully this forum will fulfill its promise.
My wife and I are nomads. We left Maine in 1997 and have been traveling in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Brazil for over 20 years. We were volunteers for the Red Cross and participated in numerous disasters including Katrina and Wilma. Our roll was to operate the front line communication vehicle called an ECRV.
The nomadic lifestyle has certain issues. One is scheduling. Our plans are firmly fixed in jello and subject to whimsy. This makes me very unreliable for any continued task. Means my participation here will be sporadic, with long quiet periods.
Looking forward to some interesting discussions.

KeymasterHowdy Ron!
Unfortunately I dont have any HAM experience. So anything you can add will be greatly appreciated!
We did have a HAM guy here, but have not seen him in a while.
As for religion, we seem to be mostly a live and let live kinda site.
We have a politics section. I post to it often, but mainly to keep everyone informed for the upcoming 2020 election.

I haven’t active in 10 years or so. Contemplating buying a new HF radio. Maybe a ICOM. What do you recommend in a mobile unit?
What do you think about these cheap Chinese Baofeng radios? Are they reliable?
