I have seen a number of articles saying the EU might break up over the response to CV19.

Anonymous@CB Wouldn’t that be a good thing? the EU has been a bastion of socialism and accepting way too many refugees.

I cannot say.
Frankly I dont really care. If they want to accept refugees that is on them.
But just look at the consequences like what Germany and Sweden are experiencing.

Another failed Socialist experiment , another failed European experiment . Only thing that sucks , is that I was hoping we could disolve NATO , and make them take care of themselves . Either way , NATO needs to go .

I would agree with that.
NATO was a good idea . . . a few decades ago.
Now, they are not really relevant.

It did a few good things …ammo standardization…

Ammo standardization , with BAD choices . The only people that liked the 223/ 556 , whatever you want to call it , crap is crap were the Americans . NOW the military has finally admitted its horrible , and needs replacement to a bigger projectile . They knew it was junk when it got its first combat test in Vietnam . Its inadequate in every way . The military was too deep into it , to turn back , but they knew they made a mistake . Americans do best when we go our own way , re adopt the 30.06 , and be done with it . NATO did what it was designed to do , but now the need is gone . The Soviet Union is dead , and its not coming back . Europe has recovered from WW2 quite nicely now .

@tolik, you are not wrong on the choice of ammo.
But also back then, we had a draft, and rather than a professional military, we had, for lack of better terms, conscripts.
They made up for skill and first round hits with volume. Required more bullets for them to carry, so they gave them varmint rounds.

well unless you have a s@#ton of other than NATO or soviet standard ammo shtf means you will end up using that system pick.the best you can 7.62×51 mm lots of it. 5.56 is good for lmg against infantry it keeps heads down. Sure a 50 would be nice to have but nothe mobile at all without support and vehicles for long distance.
3006 can’t shoot that for days and still use your shoulder those older m1 steel plate shoulder kicked like a mule 500 rounds in a day would be a chore. Let a alone for days and moving with that much on foot would be limited to one maybe 2 engagements before you are out of ammo.
Also use the hp soft nose 5.56 it’s a different animal that a fmj in same calibre.

When all is said and done , at the end of the day , its still a 22 , that wont go through both sides of a cinder block . Damn right I would take the 39 over it . Not like the Warsaw pact didnt make its mistakes either . The Czechs came up with the 7.62 x 45 , far superior to the 39 , but Moscow poo pooed it , because they didnt want to re-chamber and re standardize . Conscription is now a two edged sword . After Vietnam , it blew up . Basically what the supreme court said was : Congress has the right to raise an army ( the draft ) , However , the only constitutional reason for congress to need an army , is if we are at war ( formally declared war ) .
