Well we’ve hit the wet pattern. Guess we will see how bad the tornadoes get.
We just got back from making the feed haul. We purchased everything to get us to butchering. I don’t like to do that but prices are climbing and it’s not in great supply.
Looking to expand our flocks. We’ve had a case of the bird flu in Oklahoma so now all mass poultry sales and shows are shut down statewide.

Well it was a typical May night in Oklahoma. Multiple tornadoes, several fires from lightening and 60-80mph straight line winds with hail afterwards. Then the sun came out in time to set and it was cool air settling in which was nice while we waited to get the power back on.
We get a reprieve today then two more days of it -

Appreciate it. It’s one of the drawbacks of living in free America.
Everything you’ve worked for can disappear in the blink of an eye

Well we’ve avoided the bad stuff and got lots of rain which is good for us.
Made more red bud jelly. Got enough flowers for one more batch. Something like this would be good barter material I think.
I dispatched a possum that’s an issue. Had my 4yr old grandson with me and explained that he wasn’t good for our animals.
That lesson applies to other things going on right now. Not everything and/or everyone is good for others. They can bring illness and destruction. Decisions must be made. -

ParticipantWe had a fair amount of rain here the first part of the year, though we’re still under a moderate drought they say. Last couple weeks, the storm fronts broke up before they got to us, so no rain. Supposed to get rain tomorrow. Only thing i have in the ground to water at this point are the 2 beds of mixed braising greens, & the lettuces in the kiddie swimming pool.

ParticipantIt’s hot enough here we have rattlers crawling everywhere. I’m glad I have the king snakes that hang around my yard. I had to get rid of a boar raccoon that kept trying to get in my chicken house & attacking the yard cats.

ParticipantControlled burn at the local wildlife preserve. It was pretty impressive, flames shooting 50 feet high and a fire vortex reaching into the sky.

ParticipantSomething keeps chomping on my tomatoes and probs not worth the effort at this point, Got an ancho chili in a pot. Regretting not picking up the cayenne pepper plant I saw at a farmers market.
BOGOS on canned chicken here. But no cat food. Shelves have been bare for weeks.
Disaster preparedness tax free week starts on May 26th. The list list is longer, with no tax on pet food.
And my South Florida Gardening survival guide came. Its a great book.

These are easier to see at dusk with a flashlight. They reflect.
That’s cool about the tax free stuff

I checked our Walmart when I took mom shopping this morning. The cat food is short but present. So hopefully it’ll trickle in your way. I know there’s some online things like “chewy” that keep sending us adds. Maybe that’s worth a look but I dunno.

KeymasterWell, my second trip in two weeks to see my daughter cross the stage and receive her Master degree.
A friend of ours got a tractor with a massive roto-tiller attachment. He gave us all his raised bed containers. I now have 8, 2×2 wide and 4 inch tall raised beds. Planted onion sets in 4 of them (we use a lot of onions).
Same friend is giving us three pounds of three different varieties of potatoes.
A few potatoes that I left to over winter, have sprouted new growth.
Some of the garlic and green onions from last year are sprouting.-

Man that’s a pretty good deal!
I got another bell pepper from mom today to plant.
Ordered a PL Mini2 Olight for my wife and mother-in-law SR22 pistol and had a holster built for it.
Somebody left the oven on outside down here today 🔥

Got my hands on some good barrels with a open top double lid setup. Transferring the feed into it to keep critters and moisture out.
They weren’t cheap but it’s a long term investment that’ll be used for years to come

ParticipantI found a 10 cup Lifestraw water pitcher in the clearance aisle in Wallyworld for $14.00. Filters were on clearance also for about $12.00. Went back today and the Walmart water filter pitcher was more money, go figure.
Also if anyone needs spiral bound notebooks, their Pen and Gear brand they are unloading for .25 cents each.
and yes $4.50 a gallon for gas.
Gardening season is winding down here, except for the peppers. May have to put some shade cloth over the in ground herbs.

ParticipantI have the zero water also, no complaints. Project Farm did a review of water filter pitchers if you want a detailed analysis of the zero water and others
Zero Water doesnt filter out the bacteria or parasites though.

It’s hot. 93 about 10 degrees more than usual and no to little rain. I’m usually mowing every 3-4 days but it’s 2 weeks in between now.
Wondering if I’m gonna get the hay I ordered on timeGot my jelly making dialed in finally
Gardens coming along. Gotta hoe the corn tomorrow and do some tree limb work on a fence line.
Hope things are going good for all y’all.

That’s a good deal on having a good PT. It makes a difference for sure.
We are on the final leg of getting my wife back on track with her health.

KeymasterUgh!

Got an appointment with a specalist later in the month. Good diet plan?We are expecting heavy thunderstorms, wind. Batting down the hatches.

At 8:30 this morning I’d sweated through my shirt and pants. At noon it’s 72 and cooling. Lol 😂 this is nuts
Its been mid to high 90s and tomorrow we struggle to make 60
Garden’s doing good. I had to build baskets around the peppers and support the bush beans. The winds weee ripping through last night around 50-60.
Still praying for rain.We are being told $6gl gas by July. Most y’all run higher than us. That should break most everything. Reminds me of the Carter years with the exception that the Carter administration tried some fixes whereas this administration just doesn’t care and wants it to break.
Wish I had positive things to add but it’s hard to find and see right now.
Y’all stay safe -

Man this cool weather is awesome!!
I got some work done and didn’t lose a few gallons of sweat.
Got some cabbage caterpillars 🐛 on stuff. Put some seven dust on them
Had to figure out a way to move round bales without the hay forks. It does pretty good as long as it’s a relatively straight pull
I was shopping this morning and got my niece a couple cans of formula like she uses. Took some stress off her. I’m so mad bout this created crisis it ain’t even funny. You don’t mess with kids. Your scum if you do.
well hope things are good with y’all.

ParticipantHey Matt, have you been seeing any little white butterflies around? More than likely, they’re the imported cabbage moths. I got several of the butterfly nets @ $ Tree last year & when my niece brings her kids up, I offer a bounty of a quarter apiece for the little suckers. Kids have fun & get exercise, I get less of the caterpillars.

Yeah been seeing them. It’s at the family garden area. I actually got a net for my grandson from dollar tree so he can catch some bugs.

ParticipantIts been dry here, but rain is expected for the next week or two. Physical therapy is going well. Learned about desk ergonomics. With that a new one is on order as well as a laptop riser. Cant afford pain or any more injuries.
Moved items into a new first aid bag; eg duffle bag with outside pockets, as I out grew the tool box.

KeymasterWe had a stretch of mid to upper 70s, sunny, slight breeze.
Last night it rained. Next few days 60-80% chance of rain. Just enough I dont have to water the gardens. -

Last day of May. Got some of the 300lb hogs loaded for butcher. It was a rodeo. I ain’t saying I got whooped but it didn’t feel like a win at the end lol 😂 all I’m saying is I ain’t the one in the trailer
Ordered a couple of extendo mags for 10mm just because I can 🇺🇸
heading soon for some R&R despite fuel prices and inflation. We canceled one trip. It would been $1200 fuel for round trip and in between running around. My in laws did the same cause they run diesel and it woulda been double
Some think I’m stupid for going but I’m gonna live a little and I know those whining don’t prep and work as hard as I do and I know who’s house is in order and who’s ain’t. I want some family time relaxation and fishing and I’m staying in state so…
Hope y’all are well and stay safe

ParticipantStupid, not at all Matt. You are taking care of your psychological health, and thats important.( probs the most important IMHO, cause without a good head, everything will be a mess.
Looks like we are going to get some rain this weekend from the remnants of Agatha.
Scored an handcrank/battery radio with short wave bands for dirt cheap at a thrift store.I was looking for a coffee pot and dug around the electronics section. Went back and got more canned chicken from the BOGO promotion at one of the grocery stores.
Pablano peppers are doing well. Tomato plant is on its last leg-wasnt worth the effort.
