We got a larger return this year than last.
The key take away from the article is many people did not adjust their withholding on their W-2.
I heard an CPA say people usually dont pay attention to their taxes until it negatively impacts them.

A different way of looking at it: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/do-you-really-want-to-lend-money-to-uncle-sam-at-0-interest-2019-01-29

But they paid less income taxes than they did previous years on each paycheck. Should anyone what to lend the government interest-free money over the course of a year, the can do so with their withholdings. Or not. Too bad that some rely on the government to save money for them.

@James,
Right?
But it is easier to just blame the government (which often is well deserved), rather than assume their own financial responsibility. -

Using the government for you savings account so you can… {whheeeeeeeee….} … GET BIG MONEY BACK once a year…. is insane. Doubtless it’s less painful to have already paid your due. In fact in business, most are required to quarterly pay in X-percent of what is expected to be due. But to let YOUR money, over and above the required amount, sit somewhere not in your control? Uff tah. Some folks must think it’s Christmas in April or something. We try to skim by with *just* enough so we don’t pay in. Or at least not much.
My tax person said some folks were shocked this year but …really should not have been. And they were folks making way more than I make. No surprises in our taxes.
Oooo…that reminds me. We’ve had a change and …..gotta go talk to DH….
