I know right?  Like, ok so let’s say we don’t have police. Then who has authority to make an arrest? If no one does, do we even need jails? Courts? …Laws?

Maybe I should start a private security business to hire out ex cops as neighborhood guards. Your HOA funds wont be used for lawn care any more.

    Sigh.

Maybe less sensitivity training and more de escalation training would help.

I certainly wouldn’t say i have the solution, but taking law enforcement off the streets of Minneapolis,  LA, and NYC seems like a really bad idea.

I mentioned in another thread, a former Marine and MP became a LEO. At a call, he talked down a guy with a gun (per his Marine MP training), the situation was resolved with no violence, and the guy taken into custody and NOT shot.
The police department fired that LEO/former Marine, because they argued he put the lives of the other LEOs on the scene in danger.

      How messed up is that?

First thing remove the qualified immunity law.

Then in mental health call have a specially trained officer or a mental health professional go. Non lethal load out.

No more civil forfeiture no crime no seizures.

Out in our  area the cops basically ticket and revenue  generation . Write car accident reports. If they went away would be a few blood feuds settled and a few problems dealt with then it would.be business as usual.over all because of the size things would only be pressure post shft from outsiders. Here if cops come to house they know everyone is armed and 99 percent shoot way better than them. Usually very polite more Andy Griffiths Mayberry than dirty Harry.  The new guys from city tone down after a month in town or. Don’t make it, there has been a bad cop.here  unnofficially the town voted.to shun th and family…. hard to live when you get zero services nothing  sold to you or your family… you get the point fast as closesthe. Gas station is an hour each way next grocery is 3 hours one way.

I agree with you on the qualified immunity, civil forfeiture, and mental health.

Agreed on forfeiture and mental health calls.

I think Life in Suburbia without law enforcement would be tied to how things go in the nearby city. And we tend to know only our nearest neighbors, so suddenly banding together to protect the area seems unlikely.  If the city goes haywire, seems likely it  would carry into the suburbs. Even if our local Leo’s were still funded,  how long before they are overwhelmed.

I don’t think police are the linchpin of society and without them we’ll fall into chaos.  However I could see some opportunistic people creating a mess until society gathers their wits and responds cohesively.

In the Marines, we had a saying, “There is always that 10% that ruins it for the rest.”
I think that applies to not only LE but society as a whole . . . thinking on it, might be higher for society.
Regardless, there are those who think society can become some kind of egalitarian, altruistic, utopia if the current paradigm was dismantled and everyone held hands and sang kumbyya.
Now, I can think of some good examples of people doing things out of caring for their fellow American: The Boston bombing, 9-11, taking in of horses during a CA wildfire, etc.
But then there are some crappy ones too.

There do need to be changes in LE.
But getting rid of LE entirely?
    Or, everyone open carries?

Only other way I could see it work.is old west days a sherif a few deputies and ability to for posse.

Attitude from.the top down has to change…. peace officer not tax collection.   Also laws need to reflect this no more jailing on stupid shit so people do lifeel for a set up buy of small quantities of drugs so that bushes and Congress along with wardens profit from government contract with unicore prison labor.

Jail should be reserved for serious crime why do we have to pay so much for  people to incarceration more in USA than all.of Europe. .. it’s broken needs a fix.

This too goes for government  no more 80 year old mind damaged people like Biden and Pelosi.  Need a mental health check to be made public each year of service no more than 10 years total service. When like trudeau you have huge pauses and failure to communicate why should you hold office? I would put limits 50 to 70 for president 40 to 70 any other office max 2 terms.

Personal liability with punitive damages for gross misconduct including a 2 generation ban from any office or company with ties to governement.

Minimum intelligence testing before you can run if under the top 20 percent you can’t.

Can’t run without military or civilian service  equivolent.  Same with voting.
