ParticipantUnintended consequences . During the civil war , the Confederacy had a near monopoly in cotton exports . The war started having a negative effect on production ……………………so the other countries stopped relying on cotton from North America , and found reliable , and less expensive outlets from India , etc . To the point where they stopped buying anything from the South , or at least , very little . Which also rapidly built up , the cotton producing nations . China better watch itself , push too hard , we will go elsewhere ( Mexico / South America are good possibilities ) out of necessity .

The Terrible Triplet
ParticipantChina seems to have moved some of its focus.
From where I sit, there is a huge world outside of the US of A, a world that has gotten tired of being bothered/dictated/invaded/involved in proxy wars, of the US of A.
Afghanistan is the last “straw” so to speak.
Better the politics get sorted over there, take leadership again, or someone else will … but that would probably not be good for the world, generally speaking.
I’m pro-USA, but dangit, get the house in order over there! Learn for other failed countries, like SA. 😉

ParticipantI dont think there is a fix , I look at us like the former British Empire , king $hit for awhile , then got too big for its britches , too many wars sucking it dry ……………..then fast forward to now , the UK is a 2nd rate nation , and with nuclear weapons ……………thats where we are headed .

Crow Bar
KeymasterI think the supply issues coming out of China would make American domestic made goods more attractive.
China might have cheap labor, but if due to supply chain issues, I have nothing to sell, then my profits are a big ZERO! -

The Terrible Triplet
ParticipantAbout 15 years ago my brother noted, that the rise and decline in the USA, follows a similar pattern to the rise and decline of the Roman Empire.
In Africa/SA we are fooked … can only get better, one day.
