ParticipantMany years ago I ended up with a 1911 habit.
And eventually I ended up without one. It actually happened three times in 35 years but who’s counting. This last time, I had intended to NOT get another one because of an injury that may reoccur. The weight, low capacity, and general size put me back into a Glock 23 for quite a while, and more recently a G22.
Fast forward again and with the passing of a friend, one of my old pieces returned, and took over the EDC work and the Glocks went away, perhaps temporarily, maybe not.
Excellent piece, it’s about perfect except for the sights.
And I can outshoot every Glock I have owned.Fast forward again and another friend passes. And a 1911 comes to me in pieces. A little digging in the parts box and a quick order for the missing pieces and I again have a 1911.
Why did I forsake the 1911? It fits the hand like nothing else after all these years. I was having issues with my eyes and was able to point shoot it better than using the sights.
This one ain’t going anywhere, I am going to change the sights for something more appropriate for older eyes, but it’s a keeper, again. And for “survival” purposes, there’s few better in my opinion. The ability to use ammo that would choke or break a G21 has certain positives to it.

Isn’t it possible to just carry what you like and feels right and not worry about high schoolish peer pressure and salesman gun writers telling you what you should carry and maybe then not feel the need to bash other brands or people?

ParticipantI changed because of a physical injury, that impacted my ability to actually use the 1911 and other options.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Changing the magazine was actually impossible at one time, hence my change. I went back to the AR platform for the same reason. I could actually operate it as opposed to the FAL platform.</p>
I returned to a “hi-cap” option, first the Glock, then another. For a while, it was sketchy if I would be able to conventionally operate handguns/rifles without major accommodations. There was no bashing going on, I went from a 1911 to a Glock to a Walther because I was improving and adapting as I went. The funny thing is I went from a full house custom G22 to a stock Walther P99 and improved my groups. The gent who got the G22 is happy beyond belief. That particular one just didn’t work for me.
Personally it has become more an issue of what I can use without thought versus what anyone else thinks.

Hate to hear that on the physical stuff. I hear good things bout them Walthers but haven’t got to mess with any yet.

KeymasterThe 1911, or a least the one I shot, did not fit in my hand well. Had I owned it, I would of changed out the grips for something larger.
Then again I could say the same for the 1st GEN Glocks, pre-exchangeable back straps.
Had I the money, there are a number of nifty firearms I would like to have.
But I will settle on what I have on hand now, which covers the bases, and the Qugiley in 2 years . . . sigh.-

There are a ton of good pistols out there. They come in all shapes and sizes. Carry the best you can afford, the largest caliber your comfortable with and one that is reliable no matter the name stamped on the side of it.
1911 didn’t fit me well and I didn’t even know that till after carrying it 7 years straight. Once I expanded my horizons beyond what the fudd club was saying I learned a lot and switched. Then once I started working in jobs that carry and only use certain pistols I found that even that doesn’t matter much if you train with it.
Natural pointers are more fun. Excuses are cheap and quality results are high.
