mid 80s here, night time temps mid 70’s.
I’ve been cleaning out and organizing closets. 2nd relocation for my food preps. Probs be a third before I sell. Havent decided where to move, Probs stay in the state but further north.
Found some decent furniture at the Home Depot, and a good price also.
Need to get my Amateur radio license. Got a study book. ( Craig Bucks, but its not working for me. Just a bunch jumbled info. Gonna try an online class.
LittleSister, hope you are ok.

Cooler weather, lots of rain here too. Got part of my big garden in with about 3/4 ton of compost, thanks to my local county that gives it away on every other Saturday. Deer keep jumping over the 5 foot high fence around the garden, but I got something for them, 8 foot high cedar posts. LOL.
Has anyone else been getting swarmed with these yellow jackets? my entire area has been getting swarmed and these things are ferocious. They attack and I have seen them try to take down hummingbirds. They also are attacking the bees and decapitating them. I am here in central Texas. Anyone else in the country experiencing this? The entire are has banned together with ways of killing them because bee keepers say they are not bees, said their like hybrid african killer bees mixed with yellow jacket. I say the government let em loose on us, because we’re a red state.

It’s weird but I’ve had almost no wasp this year. I got tore up last year with multiple stings to the hand.
I had zero on the house which is definitely not the norm

Thanks Keebler T. Appreciate you. Yeah there’s holes all in the ground ALL over the area I live in. Everyone has them. Beekeeper said they’re yellow jackets and nothing they can do. Pest control can’t even do anything about them they’re so bad and in EVERYONE’s yards. Remember last year when they said in the news “Murder Hornets” were abound and to beware? I laughed at that news, like yeah right. Well I guess that’s one thing MSM got right.

Lots of bald faced hornets here, but they’ve been remarkably docile this season.

Got an unexpected call from my son who wanted to go do some static range time and ammo testing with me. Always a good day right there going shooting with your kid no matter the age.
Ran some TUI and HSTs through the G40 and 1911in 10mm. Ran some Norma ball and TUI in 9mm in several pistols and plinked with Ruger Wrangler and his Glock in .22 with mini mags and Thunderbolts.
It was a little expensive but worth knowing how that stuff ran. The TUI in 10mm will hit the target and set it on fire with what it belches at 1600fps. That fireball caught the eye of the RSO who had to come check us out lol.
Then we picked up some buckets for food he’s putting back. Can’t beat that with a stick

Went to the dollar store, lots of empty shelves but picked up a couple of pairs of reading glasses that were stronger than I use. It was a tip from Mind4survivals 30 days of preparedness.
Decided not to get my radio license due to privacy concerns. Name and address is public record info and easily searchable and not removable unlike intellius.
October 5, 2021 at 11:18 am #40993
I decided against the license when I found out they have the right for an immediate on-site inspection without a warrant

Do you know enough to find your way around on the ham bands? I understand you can own ham equipment to receive but cannot transmit without a ham license. Besides I would think that FCC and everybody else are constantly on the lookout for unauthorized transmissions and will nab you toot sweet if they don’t have higher priority emergencies going on.
I just ordered a CB/SSB radio and antenna, let’s see how that works out here.

I thought hard about getting my license, but like Corsaire, I had privacy concerns. Maybe I’ll get a set-up just to listen. Semaphore and smoke signals are about my speed.

Still organizing closets. Needed some sturdy bags, so off to the thrift store. Walmart had Sharpies for $2.00 so I picked up a pack.
Started Christmas shopping. Went to Etsy for one gift, and it is busy. Checked out with an item only to get an email stating that it was just sold. Went through a 3rd party vendor at Amazon, though it was a bit more expensive, Amazon didnt know when the item was going to be back in stock.
I love my toaster oven and considering getting a back up.
Tropics are quiet and hoping that it will stay that way.
Hope all is well with everyone.

Finally getting that cooler weather. I’m definitely able to increase my work load without ending up in the fetal position on the ground from heat.
Helped my niece go buy and set up a whole chicken coop with everything. The lady was getting out of it all.
We are canning green beans today and tomorrow. Steadily increasing the stores.
I was able to find some 10mm ammo on the shelves that I liked so got it.
Things are a mess in the world. Any steps taken to fix it are just met with resistance from another angle. It’s purposeful but I’m not sure by who or what. At least here in Free America, where the chair is against the wall, the covid control didn’t happen so it’s business as usual.

Been raining here all weekend and today.
We have got about 3 and 3/4 of rain.
Much cooler. We had to have a fire in the kitchen last night.
Supposed to get warmer (mid to upper 60s) in the next few days.

Dang 80s are sneaking back in this weekend. Finished the fresh green beans yesterday now canning some chicken and pork loin we caught on sale. Try today and finish canning 6lbs of frozen green beans we’d bought too.
Went ahead and had my truck serviced since the first ones free. It was early but I get busy deer hunting and ain’t got time and I worry bout the state of things.
Stopped at a surplus store and picked up a few things. I hate them cause it cost me $100 every time I walk in 😂 but I did pretty good this time cause I actually need what I got and hadn’t been able to find it elsewhere

My wife was in the (rural WI) town grocery store and was taken into conversation by what used to be considered a tinfoil hatted white extremist (OK hand sign and all), but sounds like a typical neighbor now. Reminded me of the young black supremacist lady on my bus a couple years back (headed for the free food shelf of course) who was telling her sistah that all white folks are demons – she wasn’t joking, and didn’t even try it tone it down in front of me, the white guy driving the bus. Well, different strokes and all… probably won’t be inviting either of them to my next Christmas party.
October 18, 2021 at 3:56 pm #41515
Yeah just had that tinfoil conversation with the neighbor who is now aware of shortages
All the sudden we ain’t so weird huh?

Put up 3lbs of Gatorade and packed some loose stuff in buckets. FYI Lowe’s has food grade buckets along with knock off gama lids that are cheaper.
Finding bucket lids with gaskets has been difficult. What ones I’ve found they want $9 for. These lids are less.

Was planning to get a CB radio, but going to hold off cause the FCC just allowed FM mode to be used. Cobra one of the manufacturers of CB radios petitioned the FCC back in 2017. President-another manufacturer of radios also supported it. So I suspect new ones to be coming out sometime next year.
Stocking up on cranberries-freeze nicely, cranberry sauce, and other items which have to travel along way to get here; cause they may not later.

CB FM may be a useful technical addition, but every CB since the 70’s runs AM; to date a small percentage handle SSB and none have had FM. Most AM channels are empty 99% of the time right now; who knows if FM will ever get a large enough user base to make it worthwhile.
I’ve been listening to “skip” transmissions lately from hundreds of miles away; Kansas, South Carolina, Mexico. All AM.
