Venezuelans Turn to Gold Nuggets as the Local Currency Implodes
I laughed at the title vs the article because there is nothing to support the title.
Do you understand what will happen to you if you trade in gold in a collapse? You’ll make one purchase and then you’ll be killed. Don’t believe me then walk to the open market in Mogadishu and try it.
He does bring up a good point though in how do you know it’s real gold? Or silver or whatever?
I’m a simple guy. I dunno a kuggerand from a maple leaf nor do I know what it’s worth today, tomorrow even when I have a phone at my disposal which I won’t post SHTF.
A chicken that I know what it’s worth.
Crypto is a whole nother conversation

Yeah, that came up in the comments section of one of the TOP articles.
Me and some other guy got into it. He said I could easily learn how to ID a real one from a fake.
I said I got more important things to do.
And, if you bought a gold coin now at current market prices, how do you know it will be worth that, post SHTF? You tell me it is worth $1700. I tell you it is worth 6 eggs.
Who is right?

Lol ypubwpuld give 6 eggs? There are ways to tell on coins it a tone in silver and gold second is electric tester and the old fashioned stone test different materials will leave different colors so does mixed gold.
As for paying in somalia… you can pay in gold and walk out of arms bazaar been to both aididi (central)and Mohamed one in north Mogadishu in 90s. You just have to have the ability to not be fucked with.
They also took food, water, fuel (propane was huge seller) ak 47 russian made new was $500 usd an rpg was $300 for launcher and between 50 to 300 a grenade depending on type and amount. Yes I am wrong skin color to blend but I could speak local dialects and farsi.
It took 900 marines to shut down aididi operation with heavy armored vehicles… lasted 3 days then opened up again else where. You just cant stop this by shutting down location only by having people not need the weapons. There where farmers selling live stock for guns and ammo, why because villages where being wiped out by warlords. You could tell be the smell downwind of a village that was unfortunate enough to have caught attention of a group, those little bastards 7 to 16 year olds with a boss man maybe 20 would do to other humans.
Golds a bribe silver is trade and has issues such as colloidal silver.as for usefulness reason why certain soldiers carry 10 oz of gold coins in thier kit. 10 oz bought a person I know bowl of food and a 5 min call on sat phone.
So for you traders how are you going to fix disparages in trade value? Its reason money was Invented? Guy has 6 rounds of 243 for a chicken is it a good price? What if not your calibre? Are you sure you can trade it for what you need? Will it keep? Are you sure it’s not sand filled? Primers still good?
Will you tell them no and come back with other ammo? Chance you lose sale and dont get what you need. What if you need a tooth pulled and dentist is allergic to chicken?
What about needing doc care or other service? Something will always be a medium.of exchange. My guess ammo would be one that is fairly light and has value to everyone post shft. As things return to more civilized then pm will have a golden age lol then some idiot will have power to make fiat again or village script.

4 eggs lol
Of course the level of person, the type of collapse and the size of purchase are all mitigation factors. You can use the Balkans and there was no PM trade after the rich left among the common people. Food was king and Zippos with cigs were queen.
As soldiers, especially SF, what we do is not reflective of what common folk will be able to. Even that is short term. So yeah carry a hidden bribe coin but my current lack of expendable income is better spent elsewhere. It’s one of the reasons I refuse to travel except under my terms anymore. If you were comfortable in the Mog then you were a rarity and not in line with average people.
You don’t fix trade values anymore than they are today. They aren’t fixed. What started market this morning wasn’t the same when it closed.
It’s fixed by supply and demand. In a real collapse I’m not worried about money for a long time.
PMs are wayyyy down the list of things needed IMO especially when there isn’t anything to buy.
