One reason I am here is that I need a place to sound off on the fear I feel about the future of our country.  I am a person of faith, but that doesn’t always stop me from feeling afraid.

I fear we are screwed no matter who wins in November, and I am trying to think of what that would look like.  I fear being harassed and probably subject to legal consequences should I say things like, certain behavior is just plain wrong, or if I otherwise fall afoul of the political correctness police.  I also fear sub-standard health care and the lack of services for my son, who has autism and who will be aging out of public school services in a year.  I fear constant civil unrest with nowhere to feel safe.  I fear needing a way to protect myself but unable to get it.  I fear losing friends or constantly having to navigate tricky subjects with them.

I think what I’m doing is trying to mentally prepare myself for some sort of disaster so that when it happens, I know immediately what to do instead of just being paralyzed by the shock of everything.  I fear that I will be paralyzed by fear and by shock, and by the time I pull myself together, it’ll be too late to do anything.

At the moment, my husband and I think the best option for us in the event of civil unrest is to shelter in place.  Most of my preps are going to focus on that.

You are not only one in that mode. I hope you are not in big city as I think Corona virus beyond containment now..

I know a fight is coming can’t turn other cheek and accept the slave collar.

Don’t know how this will end other than not good.

Chances we can avoid virus, government gone crazy, food shortage, incoming economic devastation…. even if we get off easy on one no way we can continue without radical changes from each event let alone if they hit one after another which pretty much sums up current events.

My husband and I, right now, are planning to shelter in place in the event of civil unrest.  I don’t think our neighborhood will be subject to riots, but I do live within about 25 miles of a very large city.  I told my husband that I did think it would be wise to monitor the news and keep an eye/ear out for possible violence.

Where coronavirus is concerned, I’m taking precautions such as washing hands and keeping an eye on where the virus is spreading to.

@fran, You have to make some decisions now so that you don’t become paralyzed by fear or uncertainty when faced with those problems in real time.

    1. Can you use deadly force to protect your family (including preps)? Will you?
    2. If you bug-in who will you let join you. Grown kids and their families? Grandparents? Grown grandchildren? Best friends? Neighbors? Girl/boy friend?  Ex spouse(s)?
      1. Can you turn away starving families and their starving children?
    3. Will you make a last minute run to the grocery store, drug store, bank, gun store?
      1. Can you pay cash on this run if credit cards don’t work?
      2. Can you pay in gold or silver or other barter if cash is rejected or you run out of cash?
    4. If gov people show up at your door demanding your guns, food, or whatever, what are you going to do. (see question one)

I’m sure there other decisions to be made, but I know what I am going to do with the above questions.

      5. Decide now on what conditions have to be met for you to bug-in for this corona virus. I decided when the first confirmed case is in 100 mines of my home or its spreading like wildfire or any American cities get quarantined.

    @ Fran Franklin,
I think your feelings are quite justified in this day and age.

Sad when we have to worry about how a word or phrase might offend the perpetually offended.

Healthcare is a real concern for many. While some say Medicare for all is the answer and point to other countries as proof, this is America. And if it has to be messed up in a hurry, let our government do it.

Not sure what may work for you, but what we do is what we can control in our immediate area. That includes everything from being in control (to the degree we can) of where we get our meat from. Or our veggies from our own gardens. What steps we can take if there is real civil unrest in terms of keeping ourselves safe, warm and fed. We try to find like minded people who we can talk to.

Fear and shock can be mitigated by thinking here and now, how to react to a situation. Go through the mental motions over and over again until it becomes nearly second nature. In the Marines, that is why we train over and over again, so when that time comes, we fight as we trained. I know, easier said than done right?

For the most part we too are going to shelter in place or bug-in. But we also live in the sticks, so unrest around here is if one of the goats gets out. And we too prep accordingly. But I do not rule out the possibility we may have to bug-out. Hope it does not come to that.

I agree with you Fran Franklin.

I am not psychic.  I anticipate the worst, plan for it, and expect the best.  I too am very fearful about our coming election.  I think it will be a serious battle – verbally, and I hope it does not come to a physical one.  I am very afraid that the losing party will become hostile.  I see serious factions formed now and many people who just cannot open their eyes to see a larger picture or a way to cooperate.

I have been pushing my Husband to anticipate what we would need to be isolated for a long time.  As long as we get our Social Security checks automatically in the bank, we can hide out here in the country.  I  have mental plans that I am sharing with him so he can see we may need some physical changes to our acreage.  We need lumber for a latrine, for one thing.

With China hacking into “secure” information, Russia interfering in the election, Viruses hitching rides on airplanes and ships, severe flooding last spring, locusts in the MidEast, there are just too many factors that could go wrong and all it takes is one to cause a cascade.

So, just keep preparing.  Think about your worst scenarios, talk it through, prioritize some lists, and check things off one at a time.

I am not fearful of where this country is going.  I will stand up for my rights. If the left says I must abide by the rules of what I know is wrong, then I will just have to face the music. I will not stand for what is wrong and not afraid to say so. Won’t go into detail on that but will say I know full well what the Bible says. I am trying very hard to stand in my faith and will not let fear take over. There is nothing to fear but fear itself.  Let the light shine in and not kneel to the darkness.  Hope that explains it from my view point.

As for this coronavirus.  Things are not good. I do plan on staying home. But am also prepared to bail out if and only if need be. We do have bug out bags on the ready but mostly because of hurricanes.  The virus is spreading in the USA.

This one just in from Alerts USA

San Diego Co. CA has declared a health emergency and local emergency in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Two cases are being treated at UC San Diego health. Hoping this won’t spread much more but fear that it will. All those people that has come back from China are being watched right now but I don’t think they know enough about it to know how long before it makes someone sick. First it was 14 days and now I have heard 21 days. So just watching and am as prepared as I can be. We are set to stay home and not go out for several months if need be. We have well over 100 N95 mask that I already had. Though I am thinking of adding to that for family members.
