    Stew

    1 ½ pound meat

    Flour

    Salt and pepper

    Shortening

    6 medium potatoes

    6 carrots

    6 onions

    Wipe meat with damp cloth and cut into 6 pieces

    Season with salt and pepper, roll in flour and brown in stew kettle or casserole in hot shortening. Add 2 cups of hot water, Cover and cook slowly for 1 hour. Wash the vegetables, peel the potatoes and cut in halves. Add the vegetables to the meat and add a little hot water of needed. Cover the kettle or casserole again and cook slowly for another hour.

    4 to 6 servings
