These were some of my first attempts at rocket stoves.
I was trying to figure out the best top and I was using scrap metal. It was a good lesson in learning because there are several things “wrong”. They all work but the chambers are too small and clog up after use for a bit. I’d made mistakes cutting the angles as well.
So what all designs have y’all made?

KeymasterWhat advice would you give and what would you do differently for another attempt?

I think I’d put the air chamber on top so it doesn’t clog with ash. Maybe make it a little bigger.
I’d advise that everyone actually build it now even if it’s of bricks and try it to be sure. Theory is easy.

KeymasterI will give it a go, but not likely till next year.
We got 3-4 inches of snow last night.
Most of our skills/hobbies have moved indoors for the year.-

I hear ya. I was just trying to get all my outdoor done before the rain turning to snow hits.
There’s a ton of designs from lots of materials to choose from. It doesn’t have to be metal.

ParticipantIts a rocket stove oven we built. Works well.
2 things you need to be able to damper off the front feed to next to nothing once upu get coals going it heats to 600f and can maintain heat by damper. With an open front no coals and you feed too much wood.
Getting good insulation is a must we used ceramic fibre (extreme fire proof) 2 inch thick.
Another trick is to preheat riser to get draw going throwing in already well burning bit of birch bark does the trick well.
We can do 4 large pizza at once cook time 15 to 20 mins depending on outdide temps.
Also does 4 trays of cookies 10 to 15 min
1 large 35lb turkey in 4 hours on slow and low about 500f to start and brown 15 to 20 mi then 4 hours at 250 to 300. Not frozen.
You can fit in 2 pans of potatoes under turkey at same time

KeymasterThat is pretty neat.
Have been kicking around the idea of building a outdoor oven for baking bread, and with some kind of maybe side grill, cook top . . .
