Does anyone have alternative ideas for a root cellar? My problem is high ground water table and no basement option. I tried the burried old freezer method and that didn’t work because it popped right back up during the first good rain. We get below freezing frequently in winter and mid to high humidity in summer.
Go viking or Newfoundland style root cellar dig to water table back fill with gravel(cool air) then build a structure and cover it with earth and stone atleast 3 feet thick 5 to 6 is much better. Use standard venting per sqft.
Thank you both for the ideas! The property I just bought has a hill that might work. I didn’t even think of that because the old property was all flat. 🤦♀️. I like the Newfoundland style too. I might try a mix. I think the gravel would help so it doesn’t get flooded.
