Shingles

Does anyone know anything about remedies for Shingles? I got them. I am in pain and itching every where, got chicken pox like stuff all over my right side.  Doctor gave me some kinda meds for this but pains not subsiding and itching is getting worse. Using calamine for itching and Vicks vapor rub for itching too. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Gabapentin is what the Drs gave my mother in law. She says make a paste out of Epsom salts and take Benadryl too.

Hey there Matt. I am allergic to gabapentin. They gave that to my hubby and he did not have allergic reaction to it when he had the shingles, but my dr prescribed it to me many years ago and I had allergic reaction and was out of my mind, like hallucinating. Had to be taken to ER. Thanks though appreciate you my next state over neighbor.

You can use baking soda on the rash, make it into wet paste and apply, wash off once dry and repeat as required.

This form of herpes usually has flare ups due to immune system issues especially liver issues.

Hi Antigone69,

I know what you’re dealing with, I’ve had it 3 times. First time at age 17, decades after that in times of stress twice. So, I’m on the lookout for solutions to the itching “burning needles” nerve pain, too, in case I get it again.

Suggestions to look into:

1. Salves made with herbs or essential oils (check out Etsy)

2. Homeopathic remedies (can do no harm)

I haven’t tried any of these, but if you do and something helps, please let us all know.

Thanks Me Too. I haven’t found anything else except for what I have been using Vicks vapor rub seems to help alot. Thanks again. If I find something else I will definitely post

The menthol in the Vick’s Vapor Rub increases the blood flow in the area it’s used on, helping to flush the toxins, etcetera from your system. My nephew is allergic to mosquito bites (he breaks out in big whelps); after using the Vick’s, his skin is clear.

Thanks gagreenman. I was wondering why it seems to be the only thing to work . That makes sense now.
