I hardly ever go to Walmart but the other day we needed an item that was a third of the price there so off we went.

First, we pulled into the parking lot and there was this big tower in the middle with cameras that moved around. There was a sign on that which said “Lotcop.”

Then we walked in and saw ourselves on a television screen over the door.

Then because there was only one actual human in the entire store checking people out, we used the self-checkout. And there I was again, camera close-up. Because I was paying with a debit card, there’s my face, my name, my address, everything.

It made me think about the article Dagny wrote for my site this week about “surveillance scores” and wonder how much extra I’m getting charged.

Then on the way out, the guy at the door tried to insist on looking in my bags and scanning my receipt with a handheld device. I explained to him that I had purchased this stuff, therefore it was mine and it was illegal for him to search my belongings. He was pretty surprised so I just briskly kept walking.

What the heck, really? We’re being surveilled at WALMART? I’d rather pay triple than ever set food in there again.

The receipt scanning is something relatively new; and they dont do it with everyone. I got out scan free.

Was talking to a LEO recently.
He commented on the new cameras at the local Wal-Mart.
The parking lot ones were still crap.
But the ones at the entrance/exit, he said were very, very good.
Can only imagine how the rest of the ones in the store or check out are just as good.

Those cameras are 3d facial active scan cameras with thermal over lays….. will integrate with indoor sensors to increase your purchases and know your facial reactions.

Within half an hour, we have two Walmarts. One is in a wealthier neighborhood and they don’t do the receipt scanner. The one that is closer to us is not in the greatest neighborhood and that’s where this happened.
