As of this posting, not behind a paywall.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-global-carbon-tax-revolt-1543880507
Note it is an opinion piece. But note the last paragraph, and ask yourself, would you be willing to raise your cost of living?
This is NOT asking for a debate about if you believe in CC, but take a moment to consider IF it were happening, what would the solution be?
A carbon tax is in theory a more efficient way than regulation to reduce carbon emissions. But after decades of global conferences, forests of reports, dire television documentaries, celebrity appeals, school-curriculum overhauls and media bludgeoning, voters don’t believe that climate change justifies policies that would raise their cost of living and hurt the economy.

Well, it’s paywalled for me.

But the short answer for me is yes. Both in terms of additional costs and inconvenience. I already have. I will tolerate more.
But whatabout the guy that… fill in the blank.
I don’t care. I know I did what I could. Billions are going to die; there’s no stopping that. But at least my children know I tried my best to not be part of the problem.

@ Mouse,
You responded while I was typing the below. Thank you for your answer.
Regardless if you can read it or not, would you be willing to pay a carbon tax on everything from gas, to meat, to every mile your food has to travel to get to your plate as a means to fight climate change?
Again, as I stated before,
This is NOT asking for a debate about if you believe in CC, but take a moment to consider IF it were happening, what would the solution be?

No such thing as co2 pollution period at this level, I don’t see a mini heat wave all data was faked or miss calculated. It’s a scam to separate you from you money and another layer of control.
If you think this is true then moon landing was real and we live on a globe. This can all be thought out by everyone here if you just look at the facts you can observe and the lies printed.
I would not pay anymore to the theiving government than absolutely nessisarry, as stated what will they do to fix nothing only thing they can do is Rob you of your labours squander most of it and give some group 10 cents on every dollar they take and call it a job well done and they need a raise.
Co2 sequestering tactics like keep large forested areas untouched so it holds carbon bank works wonders look at California burning hmmm do they have to repay credits for the carbon release. Without forestry management there will be many more incidents like this in future as carbon tax is a feel good thing with I paid so I did my part bs.
This will be like health care debacle big companies get exemptions rest of us pay for them and government sides with them saying no way McDonald’s could raise burger price 10 cents so rest of you have to pay for their unsure workers. Walmart can’t pay working wages or item go up 15 cents so rest of us subsidize their workers with food stamps and other assistance.
Most important point since beginning of time we have had pretty much same amount of elements on this planet just been rearranged now some idiot thinks there is too much of one…. really? We have a garbage problem that is real issue this carbon thing is a side show.

As I stated, this was not for a debate of if CC is real or not, but an academic question of IF it is real, what is the real solution.

Unequivocally, NO! Not now…. not ever! I also won’t pay to stable unicorns.

@James Mitchner,
Not quite the response I was expecting, but dang funny!

These are pretty much the responses I was expecting. See the word “climate,” insert knee-jerk response, ignore specific instructions not to do so.
Not the sharpest knives in the drawer, but darn effective thread killers.

When I am asked to respond to a question that is akin to “What would you do if aliens landed in your yard?” as in “If climate change is real what would you do to solve it?”
Climate change IS real, but its not caused my Man nor is there anything Man can do to stop it. Climate is ALWAYS changing. Sometimes slow. Sometimes fast. Sacrifice and tolerant inconvenience all you want. Your choice. But you might as well try to piss up a rope for all the good it will do other than make you feel good about yourself while you call out us dull knives.

Become a producer instead of just a consumer. Buy land, raise animals, plants orchards, and grow gardens. Do with what you have, trade for what you need if possible, or do without. There are very few things you actually need. If people had to provide for themselves life would be very different.

@Emo Bear,
Thank you for your response.
And I believe you are right, life would be very different.

@ Emo,
That’s a wonderful picture.
Most of us, however, are trapped by the conditions created by a series of bad decisions made over a long period of time. Debts requiring a continual, significant income, medical conditions requiring access to major medical facilities, vulnerable to reputation destruction due to years of farcebook activity, married a person who is definitely not the pioneer type, and so forth.
Sort of like we all are with climate change. Stuck with a series of bad decisions that looked like good decisions a long time ago, with people on one side saying “get out of debt, back to the land, back to the simple life” and people on the other side saying “life is good, buy an Alexa, did you see the latest Ford F250, the stock market is going up and will always do so, so invest, invest…”

Mouse Wizard,
There are challenges in every life. It’s is up to you how you deal with them. If another person disagrees it’s on them. We each make a conscious decision on how to live our life, and often times this decision affects others. I think any debate is centered in placing responsibility. No one wants to take responsibility. One would be hippocritical if they cast the blame on someone else while they themselves do the same or worse. No matter where the cause originated, the consequences effect many and if many do not seek a solution nothing will be done. I am only one person. Perhaps my life can be an example to others of what they can do though they think it to be “hard” or “impossible”. Do what you can or else you may do nothing.

… and often times this decision affects others…
Very true. What I’m trying to do here is at least present a counterpoint to the very vocal few here that try to convince others that climate change is a hoax or worse. A point not countered is a point with increased validity.
We as individuals may not be able to do much about climate change, but when we join our voice with others, perhaps something will happen. So I remain hopeful.
What is interesting to me is the “ideal” prepper lifestyle you hold yourself out as an example of, and which is recommended by every serious survivalist / prepper resource out there, is guaranteed to eliminate climate change. So I say go for it.

Anonymous@ Mouse Wizard,
So by that thinking we should all mount a movement to get the utilities and government to implement protections against EMP and CME or maybe even pandemic. Not holding my breath.

Nah. Just do the lifestyle of Emo. You’re emp proof, cme proof, and since you’re isolated in the sticks, pandemic proof. Bank failure proof as well.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Lol, I only dream of having an ideal prepper life. While my family and I did move to a different state with a lower cost of living and more (and better) jobs, we still have lots of things we can improve on. I’ll give you an example: we have two rain barrels and only one is set up, but it is set up in such a way that you can’t get water out of it. The spigot is hooked to a hose and that hose is buried. I was NOT the one that set it up, lol you just gotta love your family. I think I’ll just set up the second one myself. My family used to always question me as to why I store extra food under the bed, but they lovingly accepted it and always ask me if I have such and such in my “stash”. My family also has medical needs like diabetes, sleep apnea, and scoliosis. I have thought a lot about these issues. My family member who has diabetes could probably manage with diet, but they continue to skip meals, overeat, and will buy two dozen doughnuts and then eat most of them because “ you’re not eating them” even after being asked not to buy so many :(. We don’t have alternative power yet, but if we did we could use the sleep apnea machine as long as it lasted. As for the scoliosis, we do some home healthcare for it, but there’s nothing that can be done to reverse it. We do live on some acres, grow a garden, and have plans to put in an orchard. It’s a work in progress and we have a long way to go before we get to that ideal life. You have to find out what works for your family. I could totally live without a lot of “luxuries” (e.g. electricity, inside toilet) but my family as a whole can’t, so we have them (for now at least). I enjoy trying to find creative solutions that help us be more prepared.</p>

@Emo Bear Forever,
Good on ya. Do what you can with what you have. Bummer about the family. I can relate.
Yeah, I am not the end all be all prepper. I have to do with what I have. Be great to have solar or wind off grid power, but that money thing.
Basically I have a foot in each world, as I think many do. Try my best to improve on the prepper side with skills, but never seems to be enough time in the day.

Simple answer to original question: No
My personal opinion and thus reason: Tax + Govt administration = abhorrent WASTE. Go find money within the gazillions already being wasted/stolen.
OldMtWoman ..and keep govt outta my pockets. I already “live lightly”
