We are a family of 4 with the 2 young adults in college and during the school year both live on campus or in the college town. For food storage purposes we are planning for at least 4 people. We live in an area prone to tornadoes, snow and blizzards. We have access to a generator if the electricity goes out and ways to keep warm if the heat goes out.
Right now I am far more concerned about an economic crisis than anything else. I am on disability which is helpful since I am only medically cleared to work 10 hours a week. My husband is hopeful to retire in the next 12 to 18 months and I would like to have 2 years of food in storage using a variety of methods… freezing, canned goods, freeze dried and dehydrating.
I want to learn to can, especially canning meats like chicken, beef chunks and ground beef.
