Here is an idea, stop buying outrageously over priced wedding dresses and having over priced weddings.
My wife bought her dress for like $250, online.

Which ever woman thinks first day of your official life together is worth spending you into debt is not worth having. It is not that day that matters it is everyday after.
I have seen people go 60k in debt for a day and get nothing really in return. If you are super rich fine spend what ever you want for simple folk no need for this craziness. Spending more than a downpayment on a place to live is plain stupid for a few photos,a dress uou will wear only once and to show off to people you rarely even talk to.

I think the Jews have it right , all the money is spent on a lavish party / reception . The ceremony itself is a minor formality for the feasting and dancing . Jewish weddings are actually great fun , if you get the chance . I have no use for any of the other ones . Too formal and dour .

As a side note to the topic , again back in the 80’s , remember when Harley Davidson was about to crap out ? A bailout argument ensued . Pro bailout people’s only real argument , was that it was the last of the American motorcycle companies left standing . The anti bailout people had a better argument , their attitude was ” Do we really NEED an American made motorcycle ” , the answer of course is NO . Free enterprise works well if we let the ” corrections ” occur . Do we really NEED an American bridal industry ? If there is a need , somebody with a better business model will pop up to fill the void .

The only real point I can see the guy makes, is the silk industry. Not exactly a domestic industry, like, none at all.
Of course the flip side is, and I think to what Tolik was eluding to, switch to something else that can be gotten easily, domestically, or cheaper.
There was that pic floating around on the internet of some girl in her prom dress, and it was MossyOak, or RealTree or something like that.
Hey, back in the 80s parachute pants were cool!
