All over the world populations have grown, though the electrical grids, built decades ago, have not kept pace.
On top of that, upgrades and maintenance was not kept up to date, for whatever reasons – mismanagement/corruption/no money – resulting in even more fragile grid infrastructures.
To sort it all out today, for most if not all, is near impossible ito the costs to a country. One can do it in stages at a continued expense over the next decade or more. harden the grid for EMP/CME’s … BUT … politicians do not get voted in for sorting electrical grids. So there is that. 🙂

You are right. And I for one am dreding the 20/20 election. I am over the garbage on tv. I have been getting a bad feeling that sometime in 20/20 something bad is going to happen. I just hope that bad feeling turns out to be nothing.
