I thought this was a very interesting look at not just those camps in China but the way propaganda works (both theirs and ours.) Getting the real story about something is nearly impossible these days.

What’s the Truth About Those “Re-education” Camps in China?

I personally think that yes, they’re “re-education” camps for people who aren’t toeing the line in China. It’s also possible that the story is coming out now to make China our big scary enemy because you know that this has been going on all along.

I am not surprised and do not fault the Chinese government for cracking down on adherents of both Christianity and Islam. These are alien religions from other parts of the world and their introduction into China weakens Chinese culture and social cohesion. Chinese culture is bound up in Confucianism, Daoism, Han Buddhism, ancestor worship, and folk religions. Christianity and Islam are cultural threats and alienate their followers from their own Han Chinese culture and society. Unlike Western Europe and America, the Chinese recognize Islam’s destabilizing and destructive influence on Han Chinese culture and are fighting back. In my opinion the Chinese should not apologize for their actions with regards to Christianity and Islam. If you want to destroy a culture, just send in the missionaries.

    I have been to China.

I have a number of friends in China.

Based off what I have seen/heard, it is a crack down on any and all religious beliefs.

But they are going to the extreme to prosecute the Islamic religions. The other solution would of been extermination.  But that does not do well in the international community, right fully so.
